In an era where teens struggle to find a balance between doing their homework, attending practices for various sports and hanging out with friends, 13 and 14 year old girls Sofia and Summer Allgood have embarked on a great task. The sisters recently launched Pulse Up Foundation, a nonprofit organization that aims to provide financial assistance to help girls continue playing volleyball.
The idea grew from experiences both sisters encountered throughout their years in volleyball. Having been fortunate enough to compete at a high level, they recognized that many young athletes never receive the same opportunity. As they met more players and families throughout the volleyball community, they began noticing a common theme: passion and talent were not always enough to keep a girl on the court.
Through Pulse Up Foundation, Sofia and Summer hope to help change that reality by creating opportunities for athletes whose families face financial challenges. The organization focuses on helping young players remain involved in volleyball while also supporting school programs that may lack the equipment and resources necessary to grow the sport.
Recognizing the Cost of Opportunity
For many families, participating in club volleyball becomes quite an investment in terms of finances. Registration, traveling, uniform and equipment purchases, tournaments – all this becomes rather costly and places parents in a hard situation when it is necessary to find funds for all their needs.
Over time, Sofia and Summer heard stories from families who struggled to keep their children involved in the sport. Some parents described having to weigh volleyball expenses against other essential financial obligations. Those conversations left a lasting impression on the sisters and ultimately inspired them to take action.
"We've met girls who really enjoyed volleyball but weren't able to play anymore because club fees, travel costs, uniforms, and equipment became too expensive," the sisters explain. "It was heartbreaking to see talented athletes lose opportunities simply because of finances."

Building Confidence Through Sports
For Sofia and Summer, volleyball has always represented far more than competition. The sport has played a major role in shaping their character and teaching lessons that extend well beyond the court. Through practices, tournaments, victories, and setbacks, they have developed discipline, resilience, leadership skills, and a strong sense of teamwork.
Those experiences have influenced how they approach challenges in school, relationships, and community involvement. As they work to expand Pulse Up Foundation, they hope the athletes who receive support gain those same benefits.
"We hope she feels seen, valued, and hopeful," they say. "We want her to know that people believe in her and that her dreams matter."
That belief serves as the foundation's guiding principle. While volleyball provides the opportunity, the larger mission focuses on helping young women build confidence, develop leadership abilities, and discover what they are capable of achieving when given the chance to pursue their goals.

Looking Toward the Future
Launching a nonprofit organization at such a young age has introduced Sofia and Summer to responsibilities that many adults find challenging. Along the way, they have been encouraged by the overwhelming support they've received from coaches, teachers, teammates, parents, business leaders, and community members who believe in the mission.
The timing of those efforts is especially important. Club volleyball commitments and payments often occur months before a season officially begins, meaning families frequently face financial decisions long before athletes ever step onto the court. Every donation and partnership can help create opportunities for girls who might otherwise be forced to put their volleyball aspirations on hold.
Looking ahead, the sisters hope Pulse Up Foundation becomes a trusted resource throughout the Dallas volleyball community. Their vision includes helping hundreds of girls continue playing the sport they love while expanding access to schools and programs that need additional support.
For Sofia and Summer, however, success extends beyond participation numbers. They hope to create opportunities that lead to stronger confidence, lifelong friendships, personal growth, and future leadership among the young women they serve.
"Volleyball is the vehicle, but the mission is really about opportunity," they explain. "When you support Pulse Up Foundation, you're investing in the future of young women and helping create opportunities that can change lives."
What began as a shared passion for volleyball has grown into a commitment to ensuring that financial circumstances do not determine who gets the chance to participate. Through Pulse Up Foundation, Sofia and Summer Allgood are working to make the sport more accessible while demonstrating that age is never a limitation when it comes to making a meaningful impact on a community.
