His story is one of resilience, redemption, family, and community. After experiencing significant personal and professional setbacks, he chose to rebuild his life with humility, honesty, and accountability. Today, he is a successful businessman and real estate investor, a third-generation owner of Flavin and Flavin Realty Inc., a devoted father, and a longtime college, high school and youth football coach. His experience demonstrates that setbacks do not have to define a person’s future; with accountability, and commitment, a comeback is possible. Before Michael could begin his comeback he accepted his punishment with courage and dignity.

Flavin and Flavin Realty Inc. is a family business that was started by Michael Flavin’s grandfather back in 1925. Today, he is a third-generation owner of the company, who is thrilled to be eagerly preparing the fourth generation. His stepson Mikey has already joined the firm to take the lead in the near future. This is indicative of how even now, a century after its inception, the business is still a family affair. Tim Flavin, co-owner and Michael's older brother, helps to lead the company, and Juliann Flavin, Flavin's wife, is a broker at the firm who is considered one of the leading realtors in the area.SHe also serves as Michael's sounding board.

The work of Flavin and Flavin Realty Inc. focuses on the community of Quincy. Currently, the company owns over 100 residential apartments in the area.In addition to the ownership of vast amounts of residences, the firm also actively invests in the community and its people, such as sponsoring many youth sports in the area. As Flavin describes, “We feel we don't just sell and buyreal estate in Quincy; we are a full resource for anyone who needs information about living in Quincy. We are a resource for the best schools in the area and the best dining spots. We live in Quincy, so we believe in the area we sell.”

Overcoming Obstacles and Bouncing Back

During the early phase of his career, Flavin had many years of success. However, an unfortunate high-pressure moment led to personal and professional consequences that sent him reeling. Growing up Flavin had a reputation for being tough. Which certainly was tested during that time. It took several years, but he ultimately learned more from these failures than he ever would have from success alone. He returned to the field after some time away with a renewed focus, and it made all the difference.

Today, he is a devoted father and is involved heavily in his son Johnny’s youth football team. In 2019, he was recognized as the Massachusetts Youth Football Coach of the Year, and in 2025, that same team went on to win the State Super Bowl under his guidance as the Head Coach.. This is an especially befitting full-circle moment for Flavin, given that he played football at the high school and college levels and was even inducted into both Hall of Fames. And Johnny has earned the MVP for the league. That same year, he earned recognition throughthe Five Star award from the Pine Street Inn homeless shelter for volunteering over 40 hours a month. He spends that time speaking to shelter residents, helping them apply for jobs, and helping them understand the importance of sobriety in buildingsuccess in business and as a parent.

Moving Forward

Michael Flavin has learned through experience that a person’s career isn’t defined by their lowest moments, but rather how they recover and ultimately learn from those ebbs and flows. As he says, “I'm a big believer that your word and honesty are the most important characteristics of a successful brand, a successful business,a successful family man, and most importantly, being a man of full honesty gives you peace in your life that leads to happiness. I wavered in my beliefs, but I’ve returned stronger and more committed than ever. Living with peace is my happiness. “

In the near future, he is ambitious about accumulating more properties, Michael and his brother Tim having their sights set on owning over 250 apartments. Furthermore, his hope is for his children to one day take over and bring Flavin and Flavin into the next generation.
