Kat Dennings just opened up about her extremely out-there audition for the 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road.

Though the 2 Broke Girls actress didn't get the part in the end, at least she got an incredible story out of the ordeal — which she went through with Tom Hardy, who did end up getting the role.

Michael Fassbender also had a grueling 'Max Max' audition.

In a TikTok video posted on September 2, Dennings explained that she'd seen Michael Fassbender talking about his own grueling experience auditioning for the Mad Max universe on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, and thought she should tell her own story about it.

"They were having chemistry reads, which basically means they will pair two actors that are both testing for roles together to kind of co-audition," Dennings recalled.

"So my audition was with Tom Hardy, who you may remember ended up getting the role. This audition took six hours, and like Michael Fassbender says in his interview with Josh Horowitz — I highly recommend you watch it because it is amazing — George Miller had this other man in the room with him, who was his... I guess his acting coach or his sort of co-director or something. George Miller didn't say much. This guy kind of did all the talking. And the dialogue was a couple of pages and kind of vague."

This audition was unlike any others Dennings had experienced.

"Basically what happened was an acting class if it was the worst day of your life," she quipped. "At one point, they had us switch roles. They had the camera and had us running around the corner... The worst part of it I do believe was when the acting coach told us to say the line without saying the line? Encouraging us to just make noises instead of the lines? I was dying."

Hardy was better able to deal with what was being thrown at him than his scene partner.

"I mean, Tom Hardy, he really took to this exercise, like he was able to be extremely free and come up with very creative ways of doing these lines," Dennings said. "We broke for lunch in the middle of it, so that was cool!"

Tom Hardy was lovely to Kat Dennings and her family.

But the audition itself wasn't the most memorable part of that day for Dennings.

"When it was finally over — this is before I had a car, so my plan was to just, like, walk to the corner and call a cab or ask my, like, mom to come pick me up or my friend or whatever," the actress said, explaining that Hardy ended up offering her a ride.

"He drove me home. He was so lovely," she said. "We get to my house, which is my parents' house because I still lived at home with my parents, and he came inside and he met my mom and he was like, 'Oh what a nice house!' She's like, 'Oh, come on in!' I was like, 'Alright Tom, well this was a very special day. I hope you move forward in this experience, because I know that I'm not going to.'"

Thinking it was all over, Dennings started winding down for the day.

"I went back to the converted garage where I lived, put my pajamas on, took a bath," she recalled. "Few hours later, go back into the main house and Tom Hardy is still there! Having tea with my mother, and just chatting it up! So, I can't say enough about Tom Hardy. I will be a fan of his for life. He's a wonderful person, and my mom still talks about him, so. That's my Mad Max audition experience."

The movie came out in 2015.

Clearly, the Mad Max auditions are some kind of advanced test that only a select few can pass.

Hardy got the main role for the movie, with the cast also including Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Riley Keough.

Dennings is best known for Two Broke Girls, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and WandaVision.
