The 'Common Touch': Kate Middleton Is 'Royal Yet Relatable' to King Charles' Subjects as She Becomes the Crown's 'Shining Star'
Kate, Princess of Wales, is now 42, and Her Royal Highness is facing much smoother sailing than on her 41st birthday and the release of a certain book the following day.
"Last year, her birthday coincided with all the publicity about Harry’s book, which was about to be published. This year, things are looking much smoother for Catherine and her family," royal expert Jennie Bond shared when mentioning Kate's 2023 birthday and the release of Spare the next day.
"Luckily, the children don’t go back to school until January 10, so the family can celebrate the last day of the Christmas holidays and Catherine’s birthday at the same time," she added.
The veteran royal journalist then shared how the Princess of Wales, along with King Charles III, came through the other end of the Endgame scandal during November and December of last year. "She has also weathered the storm of Omid Scobie’s book, and I’m sure William and the children will want to spoil her with cards and special gifts," she dished. "There is no doubt that the princess would value nothing more than some handcrafted presents from her children."
The commentator continued: "Perhaps their granny, Carole, will help them make a birthday cake for her — after all, Catherine has always enjoyed helping the children learn to bake."
But turning 42 may not have been a milestone type of birthday that the future queen felt like getting dressed up for.
"I’m sure Catherine’s parents would love to make a fuss of their daughter, and it may be that William will want to treat his wife to a romantic birthday dinner, but with school starting the next morning, they are more likely to spend the evening sorting out uniforms and school bags ready for the start of term!" Bond observed.
She then stated how the Queen Consort-in-waiting "has embraced her 40s and is now more comfortable in her skin and in her role than ever before."

"And she is doing it with composure, dignity, and a wonderful common touch. She has nailed being royal and yet still relatable. She is the shining star of a modern monarchy, and it’s no surprise that King Charles refers to her as his 'beloved daughter-in-law.' I don’t think she will lose any sleep over the fact that she is going to be 42," Bond concluded.
The Prince and Princess of Wales will mark 13 years of marriage on April 29 as they settle into their 22nd year as a couple. Apart from reports showing a disagreement between the two over Prince George's schooling, the Wales couple will likely continue to be the "jewels in the Crown."
