'Performative and Uncaring': Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Encouraged Not to Make Public Statement About Kate Middleton's Hospitalization
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have not made a public statement about the health conditions of Kate, Princess of Wales and King Charles III, and "should not be expected to do so."
"I don’t see why Harry and Meghan should be expected to make a public statement," royal scribe Victoria Arbiter told an outlet.
"It would be performative at best, and as history has shown, when they do speak out, they’re criticized for making it all about themselves, and when they don’t, they’re accused of being uncaring," she added. "They’re d----- either way. Hopefully, they felt it appropriate to contact the King and the Princess of Wales privately."
Others do not feel similarly about the pair's acceptance of awards and attendance at glamorous movie premieres, which "stinks to high heaven" while the future queen recuperates in a hospital room.
"All they needed to do was make some public declaration," Lady Colin Campbell dished. "But they are not going to; they can exploit every situation as long as they don’t make a public declaration," she added. "The whole thing stinks to high heaven."
Since the news broke that King Charles III and the Princess of Wales were both stricken with health ailments, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have remained quiet, despite some reports suggesting they phoned the ill royals. But even if there was private contact, some feel that cracking jokes at gala events with John Travolta and walking a red carpet is not a good image to project at the moment.
"If they had made a public declaration, there would be a certain sympathy for them," royal expert Phil Dampier shared. "There might have been private contact. I’m sure they are worried."
He continued: "They haven’t made anything public, and I think that is the contrast; they are enjoying themselves and probably went to the premiere via private jet. It does look like they are swanning about and enjoying themselves, when there is real concern for many members of the royal family."
However, there are conflicting reports that suggest the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have in fact reached out privately to wish the King and future queen well.

"The King and the Princess of Wales have received support from Prince Harry and Meghan regarding their health. The duke and duchess contacted both parties in different ways to pass on their concern and best wishes," a source close to the Montecito royals shared.
His Majesty The King completed his prostate procedure on Friday, January 26, which led Queen Camilla to tell reporters later that day that he was doing "fine" afterward. It is unknown when the monarch will resume public duties but he will complete his required red boxes of state documents each and every day.
The Princess of Wales is expected to be released from hospital sometime next week, and will reportedly recuperate at Adelaide Cottage near Windsor Castle. Kensington Palace announced that she is expected to resume public-facing royal duties sometime after the Easter holiday.
