When the Australian Open Tennis Tournament rolls into Melbourne every January, the city hums with a different kind of energy.

Courtside champagne, celebrity sightings, late dinners that turn into even later nights — it’s a time when Melbourne truly shows off.

And when you want to take it all in at once, there’s one place that instantly puts the entire city into perspective: Melbourne Skydeck.

Rising 88 floors above Southbank inside the iconic Eureka Tower, Melbourne Skydeck is the kind of experience that reminds you just how spectacular this city really is. From sweeping skyline views to adrenaline-fuelled attractions and one of the most elevated dining rooms in the country, it’s the perfect add-on to really discover the city of Melbourne with a literal birds eye view.

During OK!’s visit, we explored everything Melbourne Skydeck has to offer, and it turns out this isn’t just about the view (although yes, it’s pretty jaw-dropping). It’s about how you experience it.

Eureka 89: Altitude Dining, Melbourne-Style

Eureka 89 is proof that altitude dining doesn’t need to feel formal or overworked. High above the city, this refined yet relaxed dining space pairs contemporary Australian flavors with uninterrupted skyline views — and lets both shine.

Once seated, it’s hard to know where to look first. The city unfolds beneath you in real time, with trams gliding along the streets and the river carving its way through the urban sprawl. It’s immersive without being distracting, making it just as suited to a long lunch as it is to an unhurried early dinner.

The menu leans seasonal and thoughtfully executed, designed to feel elevated but approachable — very much in step with Melbourne’s dining culture.

It’s the kind of place where time slows down, conversations linger, and you leave feeling like you’ve experienced something distinctly local, just from a much higher vantage point.

Before stepping out onto the observation deck, the Voyager Theatre delivers a high-energy introduction to Melbourne and beyond — and it’s far more immersive than you might expect.

This 6D experience whisks you across some of Victoria’s most iconic sights and moments, stitching together the state’s personality in just a few thrilling minutes.

One moment you’re soaring along the dramatic curves of the Great Ocean Road, cliffs dropping away beneath you, the next you’re right in the thick of the action at a packed Australian Football match at the MCG, with the roar of the crowd practically vibrating through your seat. The journey jumps seamlessly to the spectacle of the Melbourne Cup, capturing the colour, pace and excitement of Australia’s most famous race day before flipping the tone entirely.

Suddenly, you’re clinging on during a roller coaster ride at Luna Park in St Kilda, wind rushing past as the city flashes below — and just when you think it can’t slow down, Voyager shifts gears again.

It’s fast, playful and surprisingly emotional in places — a reminder of how much variety exists just beyond the city limits. Whether it’s your first time in Melbourne or your fifth, Voyager feels like a highlight reel that makes you want to get out there and experience it all for yourself.

For those who like their sightseeing with a side of adrenaline, The Edge is not to be missed.

This glass cube extends out from the side of the building, leaving you suspended nearly 300 metres above the city — with nothing but clear glass between you and the street below.

The initial step inside is a genuine pulse-raiser, but once you settle in, the experience becomes oddly calming. Melbourne feels expansive and orderly from this height, with tiny cars, ribbon-like roads and a skyline that stretches further than you expect.

It’s exhilarating, photogenic and pretty unforgettable — the kind of exhilarating view that stays with you long after you’re back on solid ground.

A City Worth Seeing From Every Angle

Melbourne Skydeck offers more than just a view — it offers context. After spending time above the city, everything below feels more connected, more intentional, more alive. Neighbourhoods feel closer, distances feel smaller, and the city’s rhythm becomes clearer.

Whether you’re discovering Melbourne for the first time or rediscovering it on a return visit, seeing it from above adds a whole new layer to the experience.

And once you head back down, you’ll want to keep exploring — because Melbourne, as it turns out, looks even better when you know where you’re going.
