New Jersey's Digital Casino Engine Keeps Setting Records in 2026

Since New Jersey approved online casino gaming in 2013, it has been one of the top states making reasonable revenue from that sector. Even in 2026, the local gambling space continues to set high revenue records for the state, and it is worth looking at. We will see what they seem to be doing right and what role taxes play in their current position.

NJ Online Gambling Records 11.9% Increase in Revenue Year on Year

According to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), tracking the casino hotels, sports betting, and online casino NJ revenue for July 2026 reveals a staggering $678.1 million. That is a massive 11.9% increase compared to the $606.2 million recorded in July 2025.

This may signal that more people are engaging in gambling activities in the state due to a more favourable environment being a causative factor. However, seeing that the state also recorded higher tax collection from the gambling industry paints an even broader picture for us to look into.

To get the exact contributing factors, let us take a look at all three verticals of the state's gambling industry.

Online Casino Gaming vs Atlantic City and Sports Betting

Per the DGE's July 2026 report, the nine Atlantic City hotel casinos won $304.2 million in July 2026, a 7.1% increase from the $284.1 million recorded in July 2025 — the strongest July for Atlantic City since 2012. Year-to-date, casino win reached $1.72 billion through July, up 3.1% compared to the same period last year.

Of July's $304.2 million, slots alone made up $226.1 million, a 6.2% increase from 2025. Table games were up 9.5%, reaching $78.1 million.

Aside from these figures, July is the first month in 2026 in which the state has recorded higher revenue from physical casinos than from online. That’s interesting, considering the typical expectation would be the opposite.

To be even more specific, eight out of the nine physical casinos recorded higher YoY revenue. Borgata is at the top of the performance scale, so it's no surprise that in the next year, the public will have even higher expectations from their numbers.

What NJ Online Casinos Generated in July 2026

Online casino gaming may have finished behind the retail sector in terms of recorded winnings, but it didn’t do too badly in revenue as a whole. Per the same DGE report, the state's online casinos and their partners raked in a total of $276.9 million. This shows a 12% increase from the $247.3 million revenue reported in July 2025.

If you are wondering what the payout in online gambling wins looks like, you will be surprised at the 12% increase YoY as well. They reported a total of $1.87 billion, which is around 14.5% more than the $1.63 billion reported from January to July of 2025.

New Jersey's online gaming market has been expanding steadily since 2024. Alongside that growth, per state tax records, the state raised taxes to 19.75% on revenue starting in July 2025. That's 4.75% more than the previous 15%, which operators were already comfortable with.

Sports Betting Revenue for 2026 so far

It would come as a surprise that sports betting takes the least position when it comes to revenue for many reasons. Considering the massive involvement of the country as a whole in the just-concluded World Cup, the $97 million the DGE reported for July 2026 falls below public expectation.

At the same time, in comparison with previous records from as early as July 2025, this is a 29.7% leap, according to the same data. In the previous years, the reported revenue was $74.8 million. That said, more than $30 million of this reported revenue came from the World Cup, which means that, in the absence of that event, sports betting could have performed much worse than it did in the previous year.

Of course, when revenue is recorded at the state level, the taxes account for the bulk of the numbers. From physical and online venues, as well as from player winnings, 2026 so far has been one of the most profitable years in recent times.

Most of the generated tax goes toward programs for senior and disabled residents. According to James Plousis, chair of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, this year's gaming tax revenue has already contributed more than $540 million to those programs across every county in the state. If gambling in NJ keeps up the momentum it has maintained since 2025, we are set to see even new record highs.
