Sandra Bullock Calls Nicole Kidman Reunion a 'Baby Train Wreck' Ahead of 'Practical Magic 2'

Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman didn't need any help rekindling their onscreen sisterhood.

Nearly three decades after playing Sally and Gillian Owens in 1998's Practical Magic, the Hollywood icons reunited for the highly anticipated sequel — and according to Bullock, their chemistry came right back, chaos and all.

While speaking to Extra about Practical Magic 2, Bullock joked that putting the pair together results in a "baby train wreck."

Despite their natural rapport, Bullock revealed she and Kidman hadn't actually spent much time together in the decades between the two films.

"We hadn't seen each other for several decades except for bumping in on a red carpet," Bullock explained of their friendship.

Still, once they were back together, nothing needed to be manufactured.

"We didn't create it," she said of their chemistry. "It just happened."

As the costars laughed and talked over one another during the interview, Bullock joked their dynamic was exactly as chaotic as it appeared.

"It's a mess. It's a train wreck," she quipped. "It's a baby train wreck that we just allow to happen."

Kidman agreed there was no need for the pair to force their old dynamic when it came time to step back into the Owens sisters' shoes.

"We didn't fight it," the Big Little Lies alum explained. "We just allow whatever happens to happen, and that is, that's us."

The duo first portrayed the witchy sisters in Practical Magic, which hit theaters in 1998. Though the original wasn't initially a box-office success, it developed a devoted following in the decades that followed.

Now, 28 years later, Bullock and Kidman are back as Sally and Gillian, and both also serve as producers on the sequel.

For Bullock, returning to Sally after nearly three decades meant bringing everything she has experienced since the first movie into her performance.

The Oscar winner explained that life's highs and lows can become "gifts" when an actor allows them to influence their work.

"If you really lean into them and allow yourself to take in what has happened in my life, it does something amazing to your ability to love," she shared.

Bullock explained that her understanding of love has expanded beyond simply wanting someone else to provide it.

"It's giving it and feeling it," she said.

Bullock said that perspective also informed the relationship between Sally and Gillian this time around.

"I don't need anybody to come and give it because I'm just feeling it," she explained. "I think that's what's nice about the story, too, is that you just are who you are and you feel it."

Bullock then turned her attention to Kidman, sweetly highlighting this sisterly connection they've recreated onscreen.

"You get to look in those beautiful blues and have your moment of sisterhood and just bring it all with you," she said.

The sequel once again follows the Owens sisters as they confront the supernatural forces surrounding their family.

Bullock and Kidman recently celebrated finally bringing the movie to audiences at its Los Angeles premiere, where Kidman reflected on the significance of returning to the story 28 years later.

"We did it," Kidman said of reuniting with Bullock. "We're still here and the movie has been made and we're now delivering it to the world."

And fans may not have to say goodbye to the Owens family again just yet. While discussing the possibility of another installment, Kidman suggested the future of the franchise could depend on audiences showing up to support the sequel in theaters.

Practical Magic 2 hits theaters September 10.
