Tim Curry, best known for his role in the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has died at 80.

The actor died on Tuesday, August 25, in his home in Los Angeles, Calif., after police responded to a call from his home around 11:23 p.m., law enforcement officers told TMZ.

No foul play is suspected in his death.

The outlet reported that Curry had been plagued with "serious health issues" for the last decade.

Curry rose to fame in the late 1960s before making his big break in the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The actor continued to expand his career in Hollywood, starring as Pennywise the clown in the 1990 adaptation of Stephen King's It and Mr. Hector in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

Tim Curry said he suffered the stroke while getting a massage, with his masseuse being the person to decide to call an ambulance.

Curry suffered a near-fatal stroke in 2012, which left him reliant on a wheelchair ever since. News of his stroke wasn't made public until one year later.

"Tim is doing great," his agent told The Daily Mail at the time. "He absolutely can speak and is recovering at this time and in great humor."

Just a year earlier, Curry was set to appear in a Sir Trevor Nunn production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, but he withdrew at the last minute because of health issues.

At the time, the Psych star claimed to be having debilitating asthma attacks after a chest infection.

The It actor shared a rare update on his health during a special screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in September 2025, held in honor of the horror-musical's 50th anniversary.

Curry explained that the stroke happened while he was getting a massage, adding, "I didn’t even actually notice anything, but the guy who was doing the massage said, ‘I’m worried about you, I want to call an ambulance.’ And he did, and I said, ‘That’s so silly.'"

"I still can’t walk, which is why I’m in this silly chair, and that’s very limiting," the Tales from the Crypt star told the sold-out crowd, per The Hollywood Reporter. "So I won’t be singing and I won’t be dancing very soon. I still have real problems with my left leg."
