Alex Rodriguez Refers To Idris Elba As 'The Black Guy From The Wire'

Alex Rodriguez seemed to have some trouble identifying his famous table mates from the Met Gala! In a cringeworthy new interview, the former baseball player named the people in his crew according to their race, and then claimed that Kylie Jenner couldn't stop talking about how rich she was!

Alex, 43, sat down with Sports Illustrated for their Where Are They Now issue and dished on the Met Gala and fiancée Jennifer Lopez.

The ex-baseball player listed off the names of the folks that sat his table on May 6. "We had a great table. The black guy from The Wire — Idris Elba, yeah, and his new wife." As fans of the HBO series recall, The Wire, in fact, featured a mostly black cast. Idris has since gone on to enjoy an extensive career in Hollywood since they show's end in 2008.

"Some famous singer next to me, I don’t know what her name is. Versace — Donatella. We had Kylie and Kendall Jenner," he continued.

A-Rod also added that he sat to next to actor Henry Golding. "And we had an Asian gentleman from Crazy Rich Asians, the lead," Alex remembered.

The New York native then divulged what he and Kylie spoke about at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. "Kylie was talking about Instagram and her lipstick, and how rich she is," he said.

Jennifer was also present for the interview and opened up about the couple's first meeting. “We shook hands, and it was this weird electricity for, like, three seconds. Three to five seconds of looking at somebody right in their eyes, and getting stuck," the "Dinero" singer recalled.
