Amber Heard and Johnny Depp have each been accused of abuse since announcing their split, with Amber’s 2009 arrest for domestic violence to her then-girlfriend Tasya van Ree recently resurfacing. However, her ex claims it was untrue.
In a statement, van Ree said Heard was “wrongfully accused” and the charges were dropped in the spat where the 30-year-old allegedly “grabbed and struck” her at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
“In 2009, Amber was wrongfully accused for an incident that was misinterpreted and over-sensationalized by two individuals in a power position,” she said in a statement. “I recount hints of misogynistic attitudes toward us which later appeared to be homophobic when they found out we were domestic partners and not just ‘friends.’”
She continued: “It's disheartening that Amber's integrity and story are being questioned yet again. Amber is a brilliant, honest and beautiful woman and I have the utmost respect for her. We shared 5 wonderful years together and remain close to this day.”
