Beauty Trends at New York Fashion Week Fall 2013
Jan. 28 2015, Updated 6:43 p.m. ET
1. Oxblood Lips and a Halo Braid at Alice + Olivia
This romantic renaissance look was one of the best beauty combos at NYFW by far. A deep wine-soaked lip with a glossy gold eye is so pretty for fall and the soft, yet constructed, braided updo is the epitome of sophisticated casual.
Get the look: Try Stila Long Wear Lip Color in 'Daring' and Jewel Eye Shadow in 'Citrine.'
2. Messy Eyes and Nude Lips at Rodarte
James Kaliardos for NARS Cosmetics created the look for the Rodarte show, which he described as: "Makeup that looked like it had been applied on the beach—slightly messy as if the mascara fell onto the face." Excuse us while we head to a sandy spot to apply our eyeshadow now.
Get the look: Try NARS 'Coconut Grove' Single Eyeshadow, 'Mambo' Eyeliner Pencil, and Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara.
3. Pink Studded Nails at Kate Spade
Celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann nailed this Studio 54-inspired pink mani, which we'll be DIY'ing ALL NEXT FALL.
Get the look: Apply two coats of Deborah Lippmann 'Amazing Grace' white lacquer, one coat of 'I kissed A Girl' pink, and one coat of 'Between the Sheets' fuchsia before adding a small pyramid stud to each almond-shaped nail.
4. Polished Strands and Cobalt-Lined Eyes at Rebecca Minkoff
Pin straight strands with a little lift at the root and electric blue-lined lids covered the catwalk at Rebecca Minkoff. This is the kind of day-to-night beauty look you want to wear to a weekend brunch and then out to an awesome party later...or at least we do.
Get the look: Flat iron your hair from the temples down and tease the top for a little volume. To keep it looking smooth, apply TRESemme Smooth and Silky No Frizz Shine Spray. Line your eyes with Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in 'Indigo.'
5. Chic Ponytails Tied With a Ribbon at Jenny Packham
To complement Jenny Packham's gorgeous gowns inspired by the mid-17th century, TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu created a simple, chic ponytail tied with a silk ribbon. The look kind of reminds us of a grownup version of our kindergarten hair days, which is why we LOVE IT.
Get the look: Applying TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Blow Dry Lotion throughout strands and TRESemmé Platinum Strength Strengthening Heat Protect Spray to the ends. Blow dry with a Mason Pearson brush for a straight finish. Next, create a part down the center and then section hair in two parts, separating across the back of the head from ear to ear. Gently tease the underneath section and along the horizontal line from ear to ear. Loosely pull hair into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck, letting hair fall out around the face. Secure with an elastic and finish with a ribbon.
6. Bold Red Lips at Oscar de la Renta

Revlon Global Artistic Director Gucci Westman created four standout makeup looks for the ODLR show, but this "East Asian Jet Setter" vibe was our fave, by far. Plus, Karlie Kloss is our fashion week spirit animal.
Get the look: Try Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick in 'Trendsetter' or Revlon Super Lustrous Lipsticks in 'Cherries in the Snow.'
7. Lace Face Tattoos at Monika Chiang
Lancôme National Makeup Artist Tarek Abbas created a dark eye with a lace accent stamp for Monika's cool girl next door presentation, but the best part of the look was the pop of green liner on the inner rim. Green is the new black.
Get the look: Apply Lancôme Le Stylo EyeLiner in 'Noir,' Liner Design Gel EyeLiner in 'Bronze Couture,' Color Design Eye Shadow in It 'List' and 'Daylight,' Color Design Infinité 24H in 'Enduring Vert,' and Hypnôse Star Mascara in 'Noir Midnight.'
8. Twisted, Low Buns at Peter Som
It was all about sleek low buns with a twist at Peter Som. Christopher Dove, Wella Professionals lead stylist, created the look to be both strong and minimal, and the result was beyond chic. Now this is a 'do we want to rock all the time.
Get the look: Part and separate strands, then section hair in the back by pulling the back half into a tight, low ponytail at the nape of the neck. Apply hairspray and use a finishing brush to smooth the surface so there are no bumps. Twist the ponytail like a rope around the base to create a knotted bun and secure with hairpins. The two pieces in the front of the head and each side need to be twisted in the direction toward the head and then wrapped around the bun before securing in place, making sure to hide the pin. Rub a small amount of Wella Professionals Sculpt Force Flubber Gel between your fingertips and over any flyaways. Finish with Wella Professionals Shimmer Delight Shine Spray.
9. Glitter Dipped Nails at Nicholas K
This earthy nail sprinkled with glitter was the creation of celebrity manicurist (and Beyonce's go-to girl) Lisa Logan and one of our absolute faves.
Get the look: Lisa used Rihanna's personal fave, Red Carpet Manicure 'Black Stretch Limo' and brand new RCM gel shades 'Diva In Disguise' and 'Always Slate Never Early' to paint each talon. Then she dipped each tip in fine cut glitter that can be found in RCM Gems & Jewels Nail Art Kits.
10. Big Beautiful Curls at Marc by Marc Jacobs
"The inspiration for this look was a 1940's-era woman, an uptown girl, but then we made it more fun, and thus more Marc by Marc. We didn't want it to feel symmetrical or too perfect, the backbrushing gives a teased effect, a little crazy," said Guido, Redken Creative Consultant.
Get the look: Apply Redken guts 10 root targeted volumizing spray foam from roots to ends and blow-dry hair. When dry, make a deep side part, then pin curl hair in small sections, alternating with a 1-inch curling iron and 1 1/4 inch iron, pinning each curl to the the head with setting pins. Leave to set and when the hair has cooled unpin each curl. Run fingers lightly through curls, then gently brush them out for more volume. Backbrush the top front section and then sweep the section across the forehead and secure in place with a bobby pin. Finish by spraying the entire style with Redken fashion work 12 versatile working spray.
11. Plum Lips and Nails at Cynthia Rowley
This deep purple hue was so striking at Cynthia Rowley—it's the kind of color that instantly makes you a cool girl.
Get the look: Apply Stila Color Balm Lipstick in 'Gemma' as the base color and Stila Improviser and Glance Eye Shadow within the 'In The Moment' palette over the Color Balm. Paint nails with Deborah Lippmann 'Dark Side Of The Moon' polish. All products are available at Beauty.com.
