Mike, 38, who has been married to Carrie, 36, since July 2010, was born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.
On Friday, the retired hockey player posted a photo of himself holding an American flag at a court house on his Instagram story with the caption, "Big day, I'm officially American."
Mike was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the second round, 44th overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry draft and played with them for 12 seasons before getting traded to the Nashville Predators. He played for the Tennessee hockey team for eight years and retired in May 2018.
While Carrie has yet to publicly congratulate her husband on his new citizenship, she has always been super supportive of his nationality!
"In honor of #CanadaDay I thought I’d post a pic of me and my favorite Canadian...circa last night," the "Cry Pretty" singer wrote on July 2018 via Instagram. "Sending lots of love to all my family and friends in the Great White North! ?? ❤️"
