Carys Zeta Douglas might have two famous parents, but the teenager is intent on blazing a path of her own. She graces the September 2018 issue of Town & Country, and got real about growing up in the spotlight. Read on to see what she had to say.
Her parents, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are highly acclaimed actors in their own rights and have been married since 2000.
Michael has received dozens of awards and accolades throughout his illustrious career, but growing up Carys had no idea. She admitted that for a long time she didn’t even realize he was famous. In fact, she thought the Basic Instinct star was a “pancake maker.”
Though the 15-year-old decided to ultimately head into the world of modeling, she was quick to insist that her well-known family paid no part in it. She even admitted that she tried to distance herself from her father’s shadow. “When I was younger, I didn’t like the idea of having his name attached, this kind of ‘Douglas Dynasty’ stuff,” she said.

She continued, “I think what bothers me the most is that people think I don’t work hard for it, that I don’t need to work hard for it, that anything I do gets handed to me. When honestly, I feel like it’s the opposite. I feel I need to constantly prove myself to people – that I am not just my parents’ daughter.”
Carys explained that being in the spotlight affected her most when her family first moved to New York and were constantly hounded by the paparazzi. “I hated it,” she said bluntly. “I used to get really upset. They would jump on the subway and sit right in front of me. I was like, six. I was confused. That’s when I knew, ‘If this is going to be what it’s like, I need to focus on who I really am. this is going to be something that’s just going to happen, and I can’t do anything about it.”
