Chris Martin made the shocking confession in a recent interview that he used to be “very homophobic.” The Coldplay frontman revealed he was teased in boarding school and was “terrified” of being gay.
“When I went to boarding school I walked a bit funny and I bounced a bit and I was also very homophobic,” he told Rolling Stone and Dodge in an interview published on December 3. “I was like, ‘If I’m gay, I’m completely f**ked for eternity’ and I was a kid discovering sexuality.”
He revealed he used to think, “‘Maybe I’m gay, maybe I’m this, maybe I’m that, I can’t be this’ so I was terrified and then I walked a bit funny and I was in a boarding school with a bunch of quite hardcore kids.”
“For a few years, they would very much say, ‘You’re definitely gay,’ in quite a full-on manner, quite aggressively telling me I was gay and it was weird for me for a few years,” the Coldplay frontman said.

Chris admitted that he wasn’t sure at the time if he was gay or not, but he was determined not to be. “I can't be because it's wrong. If I am, I can't be so that was creating a terrible turmoil,” he thought at the time. “I started to worry about it for sure.”
The British singer said he eventually stopped having those thoughts when he was around 15. “I don’t know what happened but I was like ‘So what?’ It all just stopped overnight. It was very interesting. Once I was like, ‘Yeah, so what if I’m gay?’” he said.
“I really don't remember what stopped my worries. Just growing up a bit and having a bit more exposure to the world thinking, ‘A lot of my heroes are gay’ or whatever,” he said. “Whatever they are, it doesn’t really matter. So what that did was ease a big pressure.”
Chris has been notoriously private about his personal life. He married Gwyneth Paltrow in December 2003. During their 13-year marriage, the former couple welcomed daughter Apple and son Moses. The Coldplay singer began dating Dakota Johnson in 2017.
