Kim Zolciak-Biermann turned 40 in May 2018 and her brother Mike Zolciak celebrated the milestone with a special gift. He agreed to attend her birthday festivities and to have his appearance filmed forDon’t Be Tardy. During an exclusive interview with OKMagazine.com, Kim opened up about the experience and explained why she was surprised he agreed to be on camera at all.
Kim explained that even though she and Mike hadn’t seen each other in person for almost 20 years, they weren’t completely estranged. She and her brother “were very close growing up,” and they had a relationship even while separated physically.
“I mean we've kept in touch. It's not like we stopped talking for 17 years, you know, we just haven't seen each other,” she said.
Despite Mike’s initial hesitance, he was eager to celebrate Kim’s birthday in a special way. “He wanted it to be like a great 40th birthday for me and he knew that a visit was a great gift,” she added.

During his visit, Kim admitted Mike was pleasantly surprised by how authentic the filming process was. “My brother was like ‘Oh this is not what I expected,’” she said.
“Like some people wonder if our show is scripted,” she continued. “They wonder if it's really not scripted. They wonder if you just live your real life and they capture it. And that's exactly what they do.”
