Ellen Pompeo welcomed her new baby two months ago and is looking great. But that’s because there was no need to lose baby weight since she used a surrogate!
The Grey’s Anatomy actress was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday and dished about the surrogacy process. The mother of two announced the baby, Sienna May Ivery, on Twitter the same day.
The 44-year-old said he kept it a secret because she “felt an obligation to keep the surrogate’s privacy.”
“That was of utmost importance to me,” Ellen added.
As expected, Jimmy Kimmel asked for details about the process, which Pompeo explained in great depth, including husband Chris Ivery’s role in it all.
“Chris Ivery has to do what he has to do and provide, and then I had to provide something as well, you know?” she explained. “You have to retrieve the egg. And then they put it together in a dish, the lab technicians, and then they make the embryo. Then they insert the embryo into the woman who will carry the child."
“I was present for the insemination. I held her hand,” she said.
Though she was so open about the process, she’s keeping the surrogate’s name a secret. “This is an incredible thing to do with your life, to give the gift of carrying someone's child, so I am forever grateful and feel very blessed and grateful to her—she who will remain anonymous.”
