Award-winning rapper and new co-host of The Talk Eve opened up about her battle with addiction. She revealed on the show that she went through a "dark period," during which she depended on pills and booze to "numb her pain."
"At a time in my life, at a point in my life, I’d gone through, and like she says, a dark hole," Eve, 39, admitted during Tuesday's episode of The Talk, referring to Willow Smith's confession that she'd gone through a period during which she cut herself. "I call it my ‘dark hole’ period, my dark period," she said.
“I was out of a toxic relationship, I didn’t have a TV show, I didn’t have a record deal," the Grammy winner continued. "I was just kinda like, what is happening with my life? So I started drinking, a lot.”
"I started drinking, and drinking, and drinking because I didn’t want to deal with my emotions," Eve, who got a DUI in 2007, said. "I didn’t have anybody to really talk to. I was even popping Xanax and drinking to numb my pain."

At the time, however, Eve admitted she "didn’t see that I was harming myself." She added, "I just felt like I was coping, but I really wasn’t. You know, you think of harming yourself as cutting or something, but drinking and drugs is exactly the same thing in many ways."
Eve also opened up about her DUI, saying that it woke her up. "I had to wear one of those ankle things," she said. "And I didn’t want to because I knew it would force me to deal with my ‘S’, my stuff, and I did, and thankfully, I did and was able to get healthy."
