The return of the red carpet!

The 77th Annual Venice Film Festival ran from September 2-12 in Venice, Italy, albeit in a more restrained format due to the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic. It was one of the first major cultural events to take place in Europe since COVID-19 took hold of the continent and essentially shut down the film industry.

As a precaution, the festival enforced a number of safety measures including mandatory face masks, temperature checks, physical distancing during screenings and a wall built around the red carpet to keep the public away.

Australian actress Cate Blanchett was appointed as the President of the Jury, while Lacci (The Ties in English), directed by Daniele Luchetti, was selected as the opening film — the first Italian movie in 11 years to open the festival. Other films screened at the festival included Miss Marx, The World to Come, One Night in Miami, Ride Hide Fight and more.

Despite the event looking a bit different this year, there were a number of major fashion moments that took place on the red carpet.
