Fashion Lessons Learned From Kate Middleton's Maternity Style

The world waited not so patiently for Kate Middleton's baby bump to show, and now that it has finally started making appearances, we're anxious about her fashion choices. So much so that WWD even ran a piece with designers' custom sketches for what the Duchess should wear. Granted Kate has had a much easier time dressing during her pregnancy than most because her body hasn't changed as drastically as others, but there are definitely a few fashion lessons we can learn from Kate. Pregnant women, please advise...
1. When In Doubt, Keep It Simple
Sure, basic black can be boring, and you don't want to wear it every day throughout your entire pregnancy, but a simple sheath like this one with sweet accents like a peter pan collar are both pretty and forgiving.
2. Find a Great Tailored Coat
A gorgeous, tailored coat with plenty of structure through the upper body will help give you a defined silhouette, but allow room for your bump to grow.
3. Accentuate The Positive
Your middle may be growing in ways it never has before, but your legs can still look killer. Show them off in a short dress and a great pair of (not too high) heels.

4. If You've Got It, Flaunt It
Instead of draping your pregnant body in what often feels like a tent, try a form-fitting knee-length dress. It will proudly display the bump and actually make you look more slender than any maternity maxi ever could.
5. Embrace The Empire-Waist
Let's face it, the empire-waist is a pregnant woman's best friend. Just make sure the dress actually fits. If you size up too much, the extra fabric won't do you any favors. Go with something that offers a little structure, like the dress Kate dons here.
6. Find Your Blazer of Glory
A fitted blazer can pull any outfit together, maternity or not. But in this case when Kate pairs a cropped black blazer with a polka-dot dress, it helps anchor the whole look.
