Hilary Duff was willing to try anything to keep herself healthy after giving birth to her daughter Banks Violet on Oct. 25 — even if it meant having a smoothie blended with her placenta.
During an interview with Dr. Elliot Berlin on the podcast , Hilary confessed to consuming the unusual concoction. “I was a little wigged out, to be honest with you,” Hilary admitted of the initial idea.
However, theories that it could help prevent post-partum depression and stop post-birth bleeding encouraged her to go for it. With a little juice and fruit added, Hilary said the final product was “delicious.”
“It was the most delightful smoothie I’ve ever had. I haven’t had a smoothie that delightful since I was ten,” Hilary revealed. “It was calorie-filled with juice and fruit and everything delicious.”

That wasn’t the end of Hilary’s placenta consumption. She now eats it in ice cube form, as opposed to having it made into pills. “I heard something weird about pills. I heard placenta burps are not ideal,” she said.
One person not thrilled with Hilary’s foray into placenta consumption? Her six-year-old son, Luca. When Hilary informed him that the item was in the freezer, he replied, “I wish I hadn’t have asked.”
Hilary opted to go the all-natural route with her pregnancy from the beginning. She gave birth at home with a “natural, drug-free” water birth with her boyfriend Matthew Koma by her side. In the end, Banks arrived after “like, five pushes,” the actress revealed.
