Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard are officially back in the Christian mission trips ministry. The couple, along with their youngest son, Samuel, recently returned from their first international mission trip of the year. Derick dished about their experience on their family blog.
“This particular mission journey was centered around helping a pastor friend of our church, plugging into however we could help his ministry for the Kingdom of Heaven,” Derick explained on his recently updated Dillard family website. “We hit the ground running the day after our arrival when we worked with the pastor’s church on Sunday morning, mainly assisting with kids and worship ministry. That afternoon, we returned to the church to join the youth ministry in water sports activities.”
As OK! reader’s know, the family traveled to the crime-ridden city despite its alleged on-going gang-war. The timing of the missionary trip came at a dangerous period for the city as State Prosecutor Raul Sanchez Jimenez claimed that Guadalajara is currently going through a rearrangement of two organized crime groups who are fighting over territory. Informaddor.Mx reported that 23 people were assassinated from Saturday, February 3 to Monday, February 5, 2018, due to the gang violence. However, it looks like the Dillard family did not encounter any danger while in the city.
Derick continued on the blog: “The next day we had more of a relaxed day to hang out and be tourists with the pastor and his family on and around Lake Chapala, about an hour South of Guadalajara… Most of our time on Tuesday and Wednesday were specifically set aside for street evangelism. Jill had Sam in tow, and he is particularly good at starting conversations ?.”

“Wednesday night we were back at the church preparing for, and then leading, breakout training sessions on various aspects of local church ministry,” he added. “By Thursday, most of us had a little better understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by God’s work in the church, and we spent the morning prayer walking many of the neighborhoods surrounding the area. Before going on to work at a local elementary school, we strengthened ourselves with some delicious torta ahogadas. If you want an authentic Guadalajaran experience while trying to avoid tequila, I highly recommend this Mexican delicacy!”
The Dillard’s trip wrapped up with a “wonderful Mexican dining experience,” that Thursday. “We had an awesome time with the people of Guadalajara and will not soon forget it,” Derick wrote.
