Jada Pinkett Smith and her daughter and Red Table Talk co-host, Willow Smith, have always boasted an open and honest relationship. However, she recently got candid about what it was like when she learned that her child had been self-harming. Read on for the latest.
Willow first admitted that she started cutting herself, back in 2010 after the release and subsequent success of her single “Whip My Hair,” during an episode of Red Table Talk.
During an appearance on the MOMS podcast, Jada opened up about her daughter's heartbreaking revelation. “I wanted to make sure she was okay,” she said.
She continued, “We went through what happened and in the moment I realized as a mother you also have to give your children space to deal with their own shadow.”

Then the A Different World actress admitted, “There’s lots of things that my mother didn’t know about me that she’s just finding out about me. Our kids don’t want to burden us.” Her own mother, Adrienne Banfield-Jones, is also a host of Red Table Talk.
Jada explained that, ultimately, she did her best to find the positive in Willow’s confession. “I focused more on how she got herself out versus what got her there. I was most proud about that she could share it in the way she did, which let me know she had come through in a major way that she could put it on the table like that,” she said.
She added, “I wanted to focus on what it was that got her through. I really talked to her about her powering side of her journey and give her all the praise in the world for that part instead of focusing on, ‘Why didn’t you tell me?'”
