Jaden Smith, 19, turned many heads when he first appeared in a Louis Vuitton ad wearing a skirt back in 2016, but no one had more thoughts about it than his dad Will, as mom Jada Pinkett revealed in the latest episode of Red Table Talk. Read on for all the details.

On this week’s episode of her popular Facebook Watch series, in which she discussed modern parenting styles with mom Adrienne Banfield Norris, daughter Willow and Jaden at the table, Jada turned the conversation to how she and Will reacted to their son Jaden’s decision to wear skirts.
“I give Jaden props,” the actress said. She added that his wearing a skirt was particularly profound “being a black young man –– and the son of an über masculine hip-hop star.”
But while she was singing her son’s praises, the 46-year-old revealed that Will was not so open to it. She said, “Will had his feelings on that, for sure. I remember him calling me and being like, ‘Have you talked about this with Jaden and him wearing a skirt?’ And I said, ‘Yeah I have. He’s pretty happy about it.’” Then there was a pause at the table, with everyone expecting her to say more, but there wasn’t anything else to say.

“It’s that simple,” Willow said after they all erupted in laughter. Jada recalled why Jaden made the decision at the time. “He talked about wanting to wear skirts to give kids the freedom, to give other people the freedom to think out of the box for themselves, and not feel like in doing that, that they would be bullied or be attacked in some way,” she reflected.
Jaden added, that while that motivation certainly came along with it, “I wore the skirts to I could look fly, so everyone would say, ‘He’s an innovator. His head’s in a different place.’”
