Jamie Foxx kicked off the iHeartRadio Music Awards with laughs as he joked about everything from Marvin Gaye’s “number one song featuring Pharrell Williams an Robin Thicke” to Suge Knight’s courtroom collapse. But the laughs stopped when viewers felt Jamie took the quips too far by making fun of Bruce Jenner’s transition from a male to a female.
The Annie star quipped, “We got some groundbreaking performances here, too, tonight. We got Bruce Jenner, who will be here doing some musical performances. He’s doing a his-and-her duet all by himself.”
When Jamie didn’t receive a laugh-out-loud response he added, “Look, I’m just busting your balls while I still can.”
Viewers were quick to turn to social media to express their dismay over the offensive joke. Perez Hilton tweeted, “Boo! Shame on you #iHeartAwards for allowing @iamjamiefoxx to be transphobic on national television! Those #BruceJenner jokes were wrong!!!!”
“Jokes about Bruce Jenner’s gender identity are not funny. Just don’t,” one user tweeted while another wrote “not cool, @iamjamiefoxx. You’re better than transphobic jokes about #BruceJenner. Be funny, but not at the expense of others.”
