Jay-Z is finally opening up about that infamous fight between him and Solange Knowles. Back in 2014, Solange was attending a post-Met Gala party with her sister Beyoncé and her rapper husband. While in an elevator, Solange punched and lunged at Jay-Z. Security footage of the brawl was leaked, and many speculated Jay-Z had cheated on Beyoncé and her sister was furious. Jay shockingly addressed the fight on his new album 4:44 in the song “Kill Jay-Z,” acknowledging that he’d “egged Solange on/Knowin’ all along, all you had to say you was wrong.” And now, Jay-Z is admitting whether that fight ruined his relationship with his sister-in-law, or whether it made them stronger than ever.
“We had one disagreement ever. Before and after we’ve been cool,” Jay-Z told Rap Radar hosts Elliott Wilson and Brian “B.Dot” Miller.
“She’s like my sister. I will protect her. That’s my sister, not my sister-in-law. My sister. Period,” he continued. “We’ve always had a great relationship.”
As Beyoncé fans know, Queen Bey suggested Jay-Z had cheated on her with “Becky with the good hair” on her 2016 album Lemonade.

Then Jay-Z seemingly admitted to the affair on 4:44, comparing himself to Halle Berry’s huband Eric Benét, whom she divorced after he cheated on her. “You almost went Eric Benét/Let the baddest girl in the world get away/I don’t know what else to say/N***a, never go Eric Benét,” Jay rapped.
Despite their Met Gala brawl, Jay says what happened in the past between him and Solange “ain’t nothing.” “I fought my brothers and argued with my brothers my whole life. It just so happens, who we are, these things go into a different space,” he explained.
