Within the last few years, Jenelle Evans has been battling her own mother, Barbara Evans, for custody of her oldest son, Jace. In 2010, the MTV star signed over custody, but now she is claiming that she was tricked in her new memoir, Read Between the Lines: Diary of a Teenage Mom, according to RadarOnline.com.
“One night, my mother convinced me to go out with my friends so I could relax,” she wrote. “I should have been suspicious at the time. My mother wasn’t the relaxing type of person, much less the kind of woman to encourage others to enjoy themselves.”
After returning home the following morning after her night out, Child Protective Serves were at her home. “My mother had called them and told them I was out partying all night and left my son at home,” she said. “She told them I did this pretty much every night, which was a lie. I tried to tell them she told me to go out, but they wouldn’t listen.”
CPS awarded her mother temporary custody due to her actions. “CPS threatened to put my son in foster care if I didn’t sign custody of him over to my mom because I wasn’t financially stable,” she explained. “I wanted to get a lawyer to fight it, but I couldn’t afford one. I felt like a frightened animal backed into a corner.”

After signing over custody, Jenelle planned on going back to school finding a job, and a place of her own within a year, however, those plans never followed through. The mother turned to heroin while she was dating her ex-boyfriend, Kieffer Delp and her ex-husband Courtland Rogers.
“I fell into the trap of signing over the custody of my son Jace. I thought I was doing it so I could get my life back on track and regain custody of my son,” she penned. “The courts awarded her full custody and she has retained rights ever since.”
Jenelle has been fighting for full custody back of Jace for years and this past May she faced her mother in court. She did not walk away with what she wanted, but did earn more visitation time. Due to their battle over Jace, Jenelle and Barbara's relationship is estranged.
