The shocking news about Barbara was still on everyone’s minds Monday morning as Jenna took her post at Today, where she began by saying, “We are grateful for her. She’s the best grandma anybody could have ever had — or have.”
She also shared an update from her twin sister Barbara Pierce Bush, who had just spoke with the 92-year-old yesterday amid the terrible news. Barbara told Jenna that their grandmother “is in great spirits and she’s a fighter. She’s an enforcer.”
Jenna went on to say that Barbara Sr. is “with my grandpa [former President George H.W. Bush], the man she’s loved for over 73 years and they are surrounded by family.”
Jenna’s comforting words came just hours after the shocking announcement about her grandmother, who has decided that after several treatments she will no longer seek hospitalization. The statement from her office read, “Following a recent series of hospitalizations, and after consulting her family and doctors, Mrs. Bush, now age 92, has decided not to seek additional medical treatment and will instead focus on comfort care.”
“It will not surprise those who know her that Barbara Bush has been a rock in the face of her failing health, worrying not for herself — thanks to her abiding faith — but for others. She is surrounded by a family she adores, and appreciates the many kind messages and especially the prayers she is receiving,” the statement continued.
