Derick Dillard is a strict parent! When a fan asked the Counting On star how he explains Halloween — a major no-no in Christian Fundamentalist religions — to his sons Israel and Samuel, Jill Duggar’s husband said it’s all about Christ in their household.

“@derickmdillard I’m curious did you go trick or treating as a child? (I know you don’t condone that now since you’ve condemned your former life),” a fan tweeted at Derick.

“Also what do you tell Israel when he sees and asks about all the cute Halloween decorations on houses and at the store?” the fan asked.

Derick confirmed he did go trick-or-treating as a child, but since he’s a Fundamentalist Christian now, there are no candy or costumes allowed.

“Yes, I did,” Derick replied. “Do you mean my former life, before I was a Christian? I gave my life to Christ 20 yrs ago, and I’ve sought to live for him every since. I’m not perfect, but I’m trying to be more like Christ every day.”

Fans on Reddit felt bad for Derick and Jill’s sons. “Poor kids. They just want to dress up and get candy,” one fan wrote.
