The Jodi Arias case has swept the nation after the 34-year-old was found guilty of killing her ex-boyfriend, Travis Alexander, in Arizona in 2008. On Thursday, a hung jury was declared in her death penalty trial. Click through for six fast facts about the case.
The jury could not reach a verdict by Thursday and declared they were deadlocked. The jury was tasked with deciding whether she would spend life in prison or face the death penalty.

So what’s the “verdict” now? The judge, Sherry Stephens, will officially sentence Arias on April 13. She will determine whether Jodi will serve the rest of her life in prison or be eligible for parole after 25 years.

Members of Alexander’s family were present in the courtroom and according to RadarOnline, were heard sobbing during the reading of the verdict. One reporter tweeted: “The family left the courthouse. #TravisAlexander sister said the justice is in the afterlife when Jodi burns in hell. #jodiarias.”

The Alexander family attorney Jay Beckstead issued a statement from Alexander's brothers and sisters, saying they "are saddened by the jury's inability to reach a decision on the death penalty, however, we understand the difficulty of the decision, and have nothing but respect for the jury's time."
Arias stabbed Alexander 27 times in his Mesa, Ariz. home and then shot him in what prosecutors described as a brutal crime scene.

This is the second time a jury could not reach a decision on her punishment for the brutal murder. She was convicted of murder in 2013, but the jury could not reach a verdict in the first sentencing.
The prosecution team said Arias had a relationship with Alexander and killed him for revenge because he was planning a trip to Mexico with another woman.
Prosecutors called for the execution of Arias but her defense argued that her life should be spared because she is mentally-ill and showing remorse.
