Judy Blume has been writing children and young adult fiction novels for almost 50 years and her work has been praised by the masses. But her stories barely have yet to become major motion pictures — well, until now. Her cutting-edge book, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret has just been green-lighted to be turned into a film.
The author has finally given the rights to producer James L. Brooks’ Gracie Films and Kelly Fremon Craig, who worked together on the film, The Edge of Seventeen.
The book, originally printed in 1970, chronicles the life of sixth grader, Margaret who tries to find some spiritual guidance in her irreligious home.
The book has been praised for decades for talking about subjects like religion, puberty, menstruation and dating.

Kelly revealed to Deadline how much of an impact the book has been to young women. “It is this right of passage for women and girls...There’s something so timely and full of truth...and I remember for me that at that age, it felt like a life raft at a time when you’re lost and searching and unsure. This book comes along and tells you you’re not alone."
The 80-year-old's YA novels never been adapted into full-length feature films except for one. Her novel, Tiger Eyes was adapted into an indie drama starring Willa Holland in 2012.
