“Kate and William found out they were expecting a girl during the 21-week scan, and since then, everyone’s been asking what they plan to name her,” a Palace insider told OK! magazine. Although the couple “felt they needed to either go with something very traditional, like Elizabeth or Mary, or something that had a lot of meaning to them. So they’ve gone with the latter.”
So which name has a lot of meaning to the couple? Diana! Despite his late mother's estranged relationship with Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth II after she revealed private details about her marriage in a 1995 interview, William “never saw his mom as a royal figure – she was just his mom, and she adored him and his brother. He had such a happy childhood, and that was all due to her.”
But moniker is actually all Princess Kate’s doing! The source explained that Her Royal Highness felt Diana’s legacy of charity work deserved to live on. “They decided then and there that no matter what anyone said, they were sticking to naming their baby girl after her late grandmother.”
The source added, “Having a baby girl who carried her name will be a beautiful reminder of Diana every time he looks at his daughter.” And even the Queen approves! “She told him that while she knows she had her issues with Diana in the past, she couldn’t deny that she was an amazing mother,” the insider said.
