Katherine McNamara Reveals Why She Feels Pressure From ‘ShadowHunters’ Fans Plus How She’s Giving Back With DoSomething!

Katherine McNamara is sticking up for our four-legged friends! The actress has teamed up withDoSomething.org and truth's Four-Legged Finshers campaign! In an exclusive interview with OKMagazine.com, she discussed how she's helping give our pets a voice, the pressure not to disappoint her Shadowhunters fan base, and why she was terrified of the role at first!

Katherine is a dog owner herself and wanted to be a part of the DoSomething.org and truth's Four-Legged Finshers campaign because people are aware of how smoking effects humans, but they aren't aware that dogs and cats are twice as likely to get cancer if their owner smokes because of exposure to second and third hand smoke.

Besides joining forces with her pup Sophie to spread the word about the campaign, Katherine also has season 2 of Shadowhunters to prep for!

The actress revealed that she found out she got the role as the lead character only 10 minutes prior to the big announcement on Twitter! "It's kind of insane, because I haven't been doing this for a terribly long time, and it's something that, it's a lot of responsibility especially when it's coming from a book series," she explained.

As for landing a role in a series that is based off books, Katherine admitted that she was "terrified" of the reaction from the fandom, however she said they all gave her a "warm" welcome!

The warm welcome continued when Katherine hit ComicCon in New York with her co-stars! She explained that during the panel they had to "shut the doors because it was overflowing" with fans! She said that during the event the cast had a signing where people dressed as her character and "girls would come up to the table and just burst into tears!"

However, the welcome she received on set is a totally different one! Katherine revealed that her co-star Dominic Sherwood is definitely the biggest prankster! She explained that the worst prank he did to her was when he taped her to her trailer!

At just 20-years-old, Katherine has over 800,000 followers on Instagram, and admits that she does at times feel an "obligation" to make sure her photos are "good quality because a lot of people are looking at them!" As for her way of keeping her followers engaged in her account she explained that she tries to find things to "share that are interesting and fun."

Something that the fans should keep an eye out for on her Instagram is her future in the music business! Katherine revealed that she does "have something planned" and "has a few tracks at this point!" "Music is something I wanted to do for a long time and I never had the appropriate  time to commit to it until this hiatus and it's really something I dove myself into and I am very excited about it," she said.
