During an appearance on Ryan's radio show On Air With Ryan Seacrest, Kelly, 48, talked about recently setting up Lola's dorm at NYU and revealed that she's worried her daughter will get homesick. However, even if she does, the talk show host said she won't be letting her come home!

“College is where you start establishing yourself as an independent person and I think when you send your kid away to college — if your kid stays local — you get all of the hassle of sending your kid away to college but none of the sympathy or empathy from your friends,” she told Ryan, 44 on Wednesday, September 4.

“Your friends go, ‘At least she’s nearby’ and I go, ‘Yeah, but that’s not good’ because if she feels homesick, I have to say to her, ‘No, you can’t come home, you’re gonna have to work it out…whatever you’re going through, figure it out,'" Kelly, who resides in New York City with her husband Mark Consuelos and their youngest son, Joaquin, said.

“My main concern was I didn't know if she should be this close to home because I don’t want her using home like it’s her home. I want her to use it as an experience!” Kelly recalled of a conversation she had with Lola when she was deciding where to go to school.

“I treat it all the same. I did the same thing with my son," she said of the couple's oldest son Michael, who also goes to NYU. "It’s like, ‘You’re gonna have to figure out how to be an adult, this is when you figure it out.'”
Ahead of her interview with Ryan, the star took to Instagram to share a sweet photo of her hugging Lola goodbye after moving her into her dorm in the city. "The nest is getting roomy," she captioned the shot.
