Kylie Jenner was just trying to be a good friend. She threw a Handmaid’s Tale-themed birthday party for her best pal Stassie Karanikolaou on Saturday, June 8, but is now receiving major backlash over it. Fans flooded her Instagram with comments criticizing the young billionaire's choice in theme.

Kylie, 21, posted a series of snaps from the party on her Instagram stories and invited friends like her assistant Victoria Villarroel, makeup artist Ariel Tejada and Sofia Richie. The gathering was held at Kylie's Hollywood Hills home.
Partygoers wore the iconic red robes and white bonnets portrayed in Margaret Atwood's dystopian novel and its Hulu adaption. Kylie's mansion was transformed to look like Gilead, the fictional setting of the series.

Once fans saw the Kylie Cosmetics mogul's party, they took to social media to express their outrage.
One follower wrote, "Who wants to be the one to explain The Handmaid's Tale to Kylie Jenner?”
One added, “She does realize it’s about rape and oppression… right?” Another critic commented, "Women like Kylie Jenner will never lose bodily autonomy and access to abortion care. Margaret Atwood’s Handmaid’s Tale isn’t a joke. This is offensive when people are suffering every day without full access to reproductive care. Countless people are harmed by societal tendencies like those in the Handmaid’s Tale. Jenner and friends are using insane privilege to dip their toes into the waters of oppression.”
