The black-and-white photos were taken in 1993, the same year he starred in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. His supporting role in the flick landed him his first Oscar nomination.

But Leo was a superstar even before he was nominated for an Academy Award, as his breakout role was in Critters 3 in 1991! He then went on to star in The Boy’s Life, among acting in other noteworthy films.
