It’s been almost 20 years since singer LeToya Luckett got booted out of Destiny’s Child. However, on the upcoming premiere of T.I. & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle, the singer got candid about what REALLY went on behind the scenes of her departure. Read on for the latest.
LeToya was a founding member of the girl group. But in 1999, after expressing her desire to be managed by someone other than Beyoncé’s dad, Matthew Knowles, she was asked to leave the group. Fellow member, LaTavia Roberson was also shown the door.
By the time Destiny’s Child returned with their new single “Say My Name” in 2000, the two had been replaced by Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin.
On the upcoming episode, LeToya recalled the events to Lil Wayne’s ex, Toya Wright. “Management made a decision. There was nothing at the time that I could do about it,” she said.
Then she confessed, “Did it hurt? Absolutely. Because we were friends. I went to school with these girls.”

“Beyoncé and LaTavia had been in the group the longest. Then LaTavia went to school. Met Kelly Rowland. And then Beyoncé showed up at my school one day as the new beautiful girl with this new beautiful voice. It was just so cool to experience something like that at such a young age. But that decision was made...we were sisters,” she shared.
Though LeToya was hurt at the time she clearly doesn’t hold any grudges. The “Torn” singer even attended the Texas concert of Beyoncé’s On The Run II tour. The former bandmates even shared the cutest photo of the reunion!
T.I. & Tiny: Friends and Family Hustle premieres on Monday, October 22 on VH1.
