Lisa Vanderpump has saved the dogs! After nearly three years of protesting against the Yulin Festival, during which dogs are brutally killed and cooked, Lisa learned that China has banned the sale of dog meat at this year’s annual event. “I actually cried for 10 minutes, I just sat there,” Lisa told The Daily Mail of her reaction when hearing the news. Although The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star admits she still has a long way to go to ensure the further protection of her beloved pooches, Lisa is still thrilled at this monumental first step.

“It's not over yet, but apparently they're going to enforce fines of up to $900 and possibly arrest violators starting on June 15, so it's a huge step in the right direction,” Lisa told The Daily Mail exclusively.

Lisa credited Bravo with helping her spread the word about the event. “They agreed to showcase my work with Yulin and the LGBT community, and I think it was because that broadcast in over 100 countries — that’s managed to garner attention,” the Housewife star explained.

Lisa said she first heard about the festival two and a half years when her husband Ken showed her photos of dogs being killed. It was the moment that sparked her to do something to make a difference. “Change is about shouting it from the rooftops and standing up for what you believe in,” she said.

Now that China has banned the sale of meat at this year’s festival, Lisa is already focused on the next step: making the ban a permanent one. “It's only a temporary ban so we need people to be aware, and for Americans to say, ‘China, we see what you’re doing and this is not OK,’” said Lisa.

The Housewives star took to Instagram to share the good news with her fans, saying, “So emotional today over the news that China has reportedly banned the sale of dog meat in Yulin leading up to the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. This means our voices are being heard!!!”
