Lucy Hale is heading back to television! The actress was cast in the CW's newest musical drama, Katy Keene. She scored the lead role in the Riverdale spinoff as the eponymous character based off of the best-selling Archie Comics series. Keep reading to learn all the details!
The 29-year-old will star as Katy Keene, an aspiring fashion designer and model trying to navigate life in New York City, while also trying to maintain her friendships and a love life.
The Pretty Little Liars star announced the casting on Instagram. Lucy expressed her overwhelming joy with a snapshot of the news and she captioned the post, "Well I’m slightly freaking out ! Thank you @archiecomics / @writerras / @thecw / @warnerbrostv / @thatthingofwhen for trusting me to be your KATY KEENE. My heart is bursting ❤️!"
The series will follow the trials and tribulations of four iconic Archie Comics characters in their 20s as they move to Manhattan to pursue their dreams. The show was given a pilot order in January.
The cast also includes Jonny Beauchamp as Jorge/Ginger Lopez, Julia Chan as Pepper Smith, and Camille Hyde and Lucien Laviscount as Alexandra and Alexander Cabot. Ashleigh Murray, who portrays singer Josie McCoy on Riverdale will also be starring in the spinoff.
The show will take place several years in the future after the high school-set events of Riverdale. Here's to hoping that a few of Riverdale's cast members will be making an appearance on the spinoff!
The character of Katy Keene debuted in Archie Comics in 1945. She is a model/actress/singer that was deemed as "America's Queen of Pin-Ups and Fashions."
