Meghan Markle Attends Launch Of Her Charity Cookbook With Mom Doria & Prince Harry
Sept. 20 2018, Updated 7:05 p.m. ET
Meghan Markle had the support of her mother Doria Ragland and her husband Prince Harry when she attended the launch party for her new charity cookbook, Together: Our Community Cookbook, at Kensington Palace today.
Meghan arrived to the luncheon — the first palace lunch she’s hosted since becoming the Duchess of Sussex — with her mom and Harry by her side. She stunned in a black skirt by Misha Nonoo and a blue Smythe coat, People reported.
At the lunch, Meghan caught up with the women who helped create the cookbook. The inspiring ladies were all once residents of London’s Grenfell Tower, where over 70 residents died in June 2017 following a devastating fire.
After the fire, the women began meeting up two days a week at the Hubb Community Kitchen (“Hubb” means “love” in Arabic) to cook for their families. When Meghan visited the kitchen in January, she was inspired to do more so the kitchen could stay open all week long. Thus, the Together cookbook was born. Sales will go towards helping to fund the kitchen.

During the luncheon, Meghan recalled her first visit to the kitchen. “I had just recently moved to London and I felt so immediately embraced by the women of the kitchen,” she said. “Your warmth and your kindness, and also to be in this city and see in this one small room how multicultural it was…I felt, on a personal level, so proud to live in a city that can have so much diversity.”
Meghan also wrote the prologue of the cookbook, which she touched upon during the lunch. “I said in the foreword that this is more than a cookbook, and what I mean by that is the power of food is more than just the meal itself. It’s the story behind it. When we get to know the story of the recipe, you get to know the person behind it,” she said.
