Michelle Williams is married! Over ten years after her ex and daughter Matilda’s father Heath Ledger died tragically, the actress has found love again with musician Phil Elverum.
Michelle and Phil tied the knot this month during a secret ceremony in the Adirondacks in front of “only a handful of friends,” Vanity Fair reported. Although Michelle initially kept quiet on the topic, she later changed her mind and filled VF in on her new romance.
“Obviously I’ve never once in my life talked about a relationship but Phil isn’t anyone else,” Michelle told the mag. “And that’s worth something.”
Like Michelle, Phil has experienced his own tragic loss. In 2016, Phil’s wife Geneviève Castrée died from inoperable stage-4 pancreatic cancer when their daughter Agathe was just 18-months-old. He and Michelle met through mutual friends, and Michelle calls their relationship “very sacred and very special.”

“I never gave up on love,” Michelle told the mag, adding that since Heath’s death in 2008, she’s been searching for the same kind of “radical acceptance” she got from him with someone else. “I always say to Matilda, ‘Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes.’”
Phil, who performs under the name Mount Eeire, recently drove across the country from Washington to live with Michelle and their daughters in Brooklyn. “Ultimately the way he loves me is the way I want to live my life on the whole,” Michelle shared. “I work to be free inside of the moment. I parent to let Matilda feel free to be herself, and I am finally loved by someone who makes me feel free.”
