Mindy Kaling Explains Why She's Keeping Daughter's Paternity A Secret

Mum's the word! Mindy Kaling is standing by her decision to keep her daughter Katherine's paternity a secret. Rumors about the identity of Mindy's baby daddy have swirled around since she gave birth in December 2017. The comedienne opened up in a new interview with The New York Times about keeping the rumors about her daughter's father at bay.

“My feeling is that until I speak to my daughter about that, I’m not going to talk to anyone else about it,” the 39-year-old said.

Mindy welcomed Katherine on December 15, 2017 and she admitted she was “surprised at how much I enjoy being a mom."

“I’m very impatient, and having a baby requires an amount of patience that I was worried about,” The Late Night star added.

The Mindy Project creator continued, “But they don’t tell you that the thing will look so much like you, and do things that are so sweet and adorable, that you’ll naturally not have the same impatience that you would have with a stranger or someone who works for you.”

“The qualities in my life that I’m really proud of, like being a funny writer or a good dresser or a great boss or a good listener — I don’t know that my daughter loves me for any of those reasons,” the Why Not Me? author said. “To her, my value is something completely different.”

She also recently revealed to Us Weekly her methods for balancing work and motherhood. "If I can set that example for her to work hard like I did, I think I’d be happy. I work incredibly hard. It’s like, work hard, play hard. I definitely work more hard than I play hard. And so I think that’s not bad. I think that I have never gotten anything easily and that’s OK!”
