‘DWTS’ Disaster! Kristi Yamaguchi Tells Nancy Kerrigan To ‘Break A Leg’ & Twitter Collectively Cringes

Kristi Yamaguchi may have meant well when she wished her fellow figure skater Nancy Kerrigan good luck on Dancing with the Stars, but she probably should have chosen her words more carefully! The 2008 mirror ball trophy winner tweeted “break a leg!” at Nancy prior to the show, accidentally reminded everyone of that time Nancy almost had her leg broken prior to the 1994 games. Twitter freaked out over Kristi's awkward choice of words!
“So excited for you @NancyAKerrigan ! Can’t wait to see you grace that ballroom floor, break a leg! #DWTS” Kristi tweeted before the show aired.
In 1994, Nancy was forced to pull out of the U.S. Championships after a man clubbed her in the right knee with a police baton. Nancy was caught on camera after the event, crying out “Why, why, why?” The attack was later tied to Nancy's nemesis Tonya Harding, whose ex-husband allegedly planned the assault.
While she couldn’t compete in the U.S. Championships, Nancy was able to go to the Olympics later that year and win the silver medal. Although the event was over 20 years ago, it’s clearly still fresh in the mind of DWTS fans, who freaked out over Kristi’s tweet!

Followers responded to Kristi’s tweet with more than a few gifs expressing their shock over her unintentional shade.
Still, Nancy didn’t seem to mind. She tweeted back at Kristi, “Thank you so much Kristi! I’m excited to get this started.” The former Olympian has reportedly been a diva on the show’s set, so maybe she needs the support wherever she can get it!
