NBC has been pitched a revival and is currently looking for ways to fit the show into their programming schedule. They are even considering cutting back on The Voice, from two cycles per year to one.

While there's no formal deal in place yet, NBC is the leading candidate to take over the Idol revival, according to sources.
Fox dropped American Idol after 15 seasons because the show's ratings had dropped significantly, and it was a big commitment in terms of scheduling since it aired twice a week. With so many of its own talent shows, like America's Got Talent and The Voice, it's hard to say if NBC will want the Idol reboot.
