Hilary Duff had a short-lived MTV reality show in 2007, but in 2004, when she attended the VMAs, her music career was kicking. We hope she shows up to this year's show with her hot hubby and adorable son, Luca.
Lauren Conrad, Audrina Patridge and Whitney Port
Ah, The Hills. This was our favorite MTV show from 2006-2010 and is probably still our favorite MTV show to this day. Here's Lauren Conrad, Audrina Patridge and Whitney Port in 2007 back when they were still friends. So cute.
2Gether walked the red carpet, um, together, at the 2000 VMAs, the same year that their MTV show spoofing boy bands was a major thing. We miss this.
Nick Lachey was one half of Newlyweds, which aired on MTV from 2003-2005, and he and his wife Jessica Simpson were divorced by the time the 2006 VMAS rolled around. But here he is, walking the red carpet like a champ anyway!
And that same night in 2006, Jessica Simpson walked the very same red carpet, but solo. You know, since she and Nick were divorced and if they walked it together that'd just be weird.
Angela Russell and Vanessa Simmons
Raise your hand if you miss Run's House! Russell and his daughters, Angela and Vanessa, walked the red carpet at the 2008 VMAS. Their show aired from 2005-2009.
Pauly Shore was one of the original MTV VJs, holding the position from 1989-1994. During those years, he had his own show, Totally Pauly, and also the balls to show up to the 1990 VMAS looking like this. What a cook.
Danity Kane was formed on season 3 of Diddy's show, Making the Band, but songs like "Heartbreaker" and "Show Stopper" were still relevant when they walked the carpet at the 2008 VMAs.
From 2007-2008, Ryan Scheckler was like, the biggest heartthrob on MTV when his show, Life of Ryan, became a major hit. Here he is posing for the paps at the 2008 VMAs.
Tom Greene had his own MTV show from 1999-2000, but that didn't stop him from showing up to a post-VMAs party in 2008. This was also post Drew Barrymore, if you're wondering.
Snooki, Sammi, The Situation and the rest of the cast of Jersey Shore walked the white carpet at the 2010 VMAs, and then did so again in 2011. Here's to hoping Snooki & Jwoww show up with their fiances (and those gigantic rocks!) at this year's show in August.
The Ashlee Simpson Show aired from 2004-2005, and right smack in the middle of its run, Ashlee walked the RC at the 2004 VMAs with Ryan Cabrera, not pictured. Good times.
Before she was a member of the fashion police, Kelly Osbourne was an MTV reality star with her family, The Osbournes. Here she is, a bit chunkier and more colorful than she is today, at the VMAs in 2002.
Ashley Parker Angel
We bet you can guess the year of this photo by the spikey blonde hair alone! That's Ashley Parker Angel at the show in 2001, the same year that he and his O-Town band members won Making The Band season 1.
After her days of The Hills, Whitney Port had her own spin-off, The City, which got cancelled after two seasons. And Whit walked the carpet at the 2009 show, which was pretty much the year of The City's heyday.
Paris Hilton has been to many a VMAS (she's a red carpet pro, clearly), but our favorite was when she was presented at the 2008 show. Her reality series, My New BFF, lasted from 2008-2009, which, truthfully, is longer than most of her relationships.
Shanna Moakler and Travis Barker
In 2005-2006, we got a glimpse into the married lives of Shanna Moakler and Travis Barker on their family-centric show, Meet the Barkers. Here they are at the 2007 VMAS, where they were technically divorced but "working things out". Silly kids.
Carmen Electra walked the RC at the 2003 VMAS, which was right around the time that she started dating her soon-to-be husband, Dave Navarro. The couple got a 7-episode reality show in 2004 before they officially separated in 2006. Go figure.
What is Tila Tequila doing now? Not a clue, but in 2007-2008, she was certainly enjoying her 15 minutes of fame as the star of two seasons of A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila. And here she is milking the cameras at the 2007 VMAs. Yup.
It's really a shame that It's On With Alexa Chung only lasted for six months. That show was funny! But still, the timing worked out for Alexa because she still nabbed an invite to the 2009 VMAs. Lucky.
The Real World: New York
In 1992, when the Video Music Awards show was only 8 years old, the very first cast of The Real World: New York walked the red carpet. So many things to say about this picture, so little time.
Jackass technically only aired from 2000-2002, but the guys' hilarious stupidity led to movie deals, spin-offs, and lucrative careers for many of them. Here they are in 2010 and still going strong!
Carson Daly is like, the epitome of 00's MTV in our eyes. TRL was the best show that ever lived! Here he is rocking out at the Video Music Awards in 2001.
