While on the red carpet at Heidi Klum’s annual Halloween party, the Top Chef star talked about her very first night in America — which, coincidentally, was also the spookiest day of the year. “I first came here from India when I was 4 and I landed on Halloween night," she said to Access.

Then she shared her hilarious interaction with a group of trick-or-treaters. “I remember answering the door and seeing all these little kids dressed up weirdly. I actually thought they were maybe beggars or something? Because they kept opening their bags,” she recalled.

She continued, “It’s the best holiday. There’s no drama, there’s no misunderstanding, it’s just all makeup and all chocolate.”

Padma, who was dressed as Black Swan for the night, also took a few moments to brag about her impressive handmade costume. “Half the fun is making the costume, especially if you have kids. I can build a house out of a hot glue gun,” she said with a laugh.
