The hit teen comedy that was produced by Scott Rudin and Robert Lawrence, was very loosely based on Jane Austen’s 1815 novel, Emma, with Alicia playing the Emma Woodhouse character and Paul as George Knightley, her ultimate crush.
Cher, a popular, ditzy yet savvy teenager played matchmaker for her new friend Tai, who she gives a makeover.
The famous “as if!” film — short for “as if that were true” — earned $56 million in the U.S. on a $12 million budget, leading to a three-season TV spinoff, with Alicia replaced by Rachel Blanchard. Clueless the Musical, starring Dove Cameron, will make its debut in New York City next month.
