Rachel Bilson revealed what it’s like navigating the dating world as a single mother on the July 24 episode of Nick Viall’s podcast The Viall Files. The mother-of-one, 37, is looking for someone who is “interested in the kid or be willing to be around the kid or babysit the kid…all the things.”
The actress shares daughter Briar Rose with ex-boyfriend Hayden Christensen.
Because of the close relationship Briar, 4 has with her father, Rachel is hesitant to introduce her to any beaus too soon.
“She has not met anyone as of yet and it would have to be someone I know I’m going to be with. It would have to be a very serious relationship," Rachel explained.
The O.C. star also likes when potential suitors express interest in learning more about her daughter. “I was talking to this guy a few months back,” she recalled. “Anytime I would bring my daughter up, he would never pursue the question or ask more about her. It was a red flag because anyone that you’re going to get involved with, if you have a kid, they have to be all about the kid.”
Rachel takes pride in keeping photos of her daughter off social media and tries to dodge the paparazzi whenever she can. “The kids don’t choose to be in the limelight, you know, themselves," the Hart of Dixie alum said. When they’re old enough and they want to pursue it and that’s what they do then that’s fine. But it’s not like I want to promote my kid or put her out there.”
Even though dating can be difficult, especially with kids, Rachel makes light of her mom status. “Kids are great for an excuse for anything,” she said.
She added, “If you don’t want to do something, you don’t ever have to lie because like you have kids. You can leave early, you can not go and you can go to bed at 9 and it’s awesome.”
