#TransformationTuesday: Renee Zellweger Then and Now
There were tons of gorgeous A-listers at last night’s annual Elle Women in Hollywood Awards, but Twitter is abuzz with talk about Renee Zellweger and…her face. What happened to poor little Bridget Jones?
For today’s Transformation Tuesday, click through to see Renee on many, many red carpets through the years and her dramatic yet gradual physical transformation.
Aside from Jerry Maguire, Renee’s big break really came in 2001 when she got cast as the lead in Bridget Jones’ Diary. Here she is, bright-eyed and pudgy-faced at the Oscars that same year.
In 2002, Renee’s role as Roxie Hart in the Chicago movie made her even more famous. This is also the year in which Renee changed up her hair for the first time, cutting it to a short, curly bob.
For the 2003 Awards show season, Renee showed off her sleek blonde bob, which would later become her signature look.
By the 2004 Golden Globes, Renee had put on a bit more weight for her role in the Bridget Jones sequel. She still had her signature blonde do, though!
That is until 2005, when Renee dyed her hair brown and got bangs.
The 2006 BAFTA Awards were all about Renee’s critically acclaimed film, Cinderella Man. At this point, Renee was back to her blonde, svelte self. Doesn’t she kinda look like Jennifer Lawrence here?!

In 2007, Bee Movie was huge. Deciding that she wanted to switch things up again, Renee cut her hair super short above the ears.
By the time Renee was doing press for Leatherheads in 2008, her hair had grown back, but she was still super, super skinny. Perhaps Renee knew she needed to look amazing next to her hottie leading man, George Clooney?!
By 2009, Renee’s face had begun to look slightly different, but reporters were more worried that she was too thin. Look at that tiny little waist!
Renee looked skinny yet healthy at 2010’s Met Gala, rocking her signature blonde bob yet again.
Renee Zellweger had zero films to promote in 2011, at which point it seems her physical transformation really kicked into high gear. There’s something about her cheekbones that just looks off here.
2012 was another quiet year for Renee’s professional life, but she still appeared at tons of big Hollywood events. Renee should totally smile more on red carpets.
By 2013 Renee had dyed her hair slightly darker and her face seemed less pudgy. Little did we know a year ago that this would be the first step before her dramatic reveal!
In October 2014, Renee looked unrecognizable at the Elle Women in Hollywood Awards. Her eyes looked wider, her cheeks slimmer and her nose narrower.
