It’s no secret that Rihanna and Chris Brown have had quite the past. Now, she is speaking up about why she went back to him after his brutal assault back in 2008.
"I was that girl," she told Vanity Fair in a new interview. "That girl who felt that as much pain as this relationship is, maybe some people are built stronger than others. Maybe I’m one of those people built to handle s--t like this.”
As most fans recall, after attending a pre-Grammy party honoring Clive Davis, RiRi and Chris got into an argument allegedly over sexual text messages in the singer’s phone. He then attacked his then-girlfriend while driving, leaving her with a number of bruises, including a swollen lip and black eye.

Months later, however, the Barbadian beauty was spotted back with him, and they even collaborated on a couple of hit songs together in recent years, including the aptly named, “Nobody’s Business.”
Rihanna continued, “Maybe I’m the person who’s almost the guardian angel to this person, to be there when they’re not strong enough, when they’re not understanding the world, when they just need someone to encourage them in a positive way and say the right thing."
Nowadays, however, both Chris and Rihanna have moved on, which most fans will agree is for the best. Chris now has a child, Royalty, and Rihanna is rumored to be dating Travis Scott.
"I don’t hate him,” Rihanna says about her feelings towards Chris these days. “I will care about him until the day I die. We’re not friends, but it’s not like we’re enemies. We don’t have much of a relationship now." What are your thoughts on Rihanna’s comments? Let us know in the comments section below.
